Celebrating Leadership and Innovation at EFMD Asia Conference 2024
Gisma University of Applied Sciences is proud to have been represented by our President, Prof. Dr. Ramon O’Callaghan, at the prestigious EFMD Asia Conference 2024, hosted by Waseda University in Tokyo on October 23-25, 2024. This influential event gathered thought leaders, educators, and innovators from across the globe to discuss the future of business education in a world increasingly shaped by data, AI, and advanced technologies. As part of this gathering, Prof. O’Callaghan was invited to speak at Plenary Session 3: Data as the New Currency, Technology as the New Driver, where he shared valuable insights on the role of technology in the evolution of business learning.
During the session, Prof. O’Callaghan joined an esteemed panel of experts, including Deputy Dean Suresh Cuganesan from the University of Sydney Business School and Professor Kenji Saito from Waseda University Business School, moderated by Susan Hart, Associate Director at EQUIS, EFMD Global. The discussion centered around how business schools can effectively manage data, AI, and advanced analytics to improve learning outcomes and prepare students for the future workforce. The panel also explored questions about the integration of generative AI, machine learning, and other cutting-edge tools into business education.
One of the key topics addressed during the discussion was the role of data as a powerful driver in shaping the future of business. Prof. O’Callaghan emphasised the importance of using data not just to reflect on past trends, but as a tool to anticipate future shifts in the business world. He noted that AI and advanced analytics can help institutions like Gisma develop future-ready graduates, equipped with the skills to navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing digital landscape. He illustrated what Gisma is doing in that regard.
The session also explored the growing importance of incorporating technology into business school curricula. As technology becomes an integral part of everyday business operations, Prof. O’Callaghan highlighted the need for educational institutions to stay ahead of the curve. This includes the integration of technologies that enhance the learning experience, improve effectiveness, and speed up the learning process. However, with varying regulations across countries, the panel discussed the challenges and opportunities that arise when incorporating technology into business education, emphasising the need for innovation while maintaining the highest academic and ethical standards.
At Gisma, we are committed to staying at the forefront of these discussions and innovations. As we move forward, the insights shared at the EFMD Asia Conference 2024 will continue to shape our approach to education. We aim to ensure that our students not only receive the academic knowledge they need but also gain the technological competencies required to succeed in a digital-first world. Prof. O’Callaghan’s participation in this event reinforces our mission to prepare students for tomorrow’s challenges by providing them with a curriculum that embraces technology and fosters leadership. We are excited to continue leading the way in business education, technology, and innovation.
