Germany: The perfect destination for Dutch students

With over 450,000 international students as of 2022/23, Germany is a popular destination for students around the world. The Netherlands and Germany have a long history of student mobility, and Dutch students choose to study in Germany for several reasons. These include the country’s global reputation for academic excellence, the low cost of living and tuition and the rich employment opportunities during and after studies available to Dutch students.

Visa

Dutch students do not require a visa to study in Germany. You must have proof of €11,208 for one year (€934 per month) – this money can be in any accessible bank account, and students also need to obtain health insurance coverage.

Tuition

As a private university offering specialised courses, you are required to pay tuition fees to study at Gisma. Check out the fees and funding options available for our programmes here.

Housing

Germany is relatively affordable when it comes to housing, on average in Germany rent is €410 per month for accommodation.  In Berlin, expect your student accommodation to cost between €500 – €1,300 per month depending on your living situation.

Degree

At Gisma, we offer a range of postgraduate and undergraduate programmes in the fields of business, engineering and technology. Our undergraduate programmes take between three to four years to complete and our postgraduate degrees are one to two years.

Post-graduation opportunities

Gisma’s Career Services team works hard to bridge the gap between our students and the industry, giving students the opportunity to network and connect with some of Germany’s leading employers in a range of industries. Dutch students can stay and work in Germany after graduation with the same working rights as German citizens.

Europe’s Top Choice

With a total student population of 2.8 million, Germany is home to 458,210 international students as of 2022/23, according to Wissenschaft weltoffen, with international student numbers increasing by 52% in nearly a decade from 2013/14 to 2023.

German Education System

Gisma benefits from the excellence of the Germany education system. As a state-recognised university, we benefit from AMBA accreditation (for our Global MBA), an honour shared by only 6 business schools in Germany and 2% of all business schools worldwide. An education in Germany is highly sought-after worldwide because of the nation’s academic reputation.

Join thousands of Dutch students who have chosen to study Germany before you, and benefit from the student-friendly job market and world-class education system that makes Germany an attractive option for Dutch students looking to take their studies abroad.
