Wasted potential: Only a quarter of companies in Germany offer one-click applications

  • Gisma University of Applied Sciences examines application procedures at DAX-40ers and Unicorns
  • Only 18 out of 68 companies offer one-click applications
  • Prof. Dr. Sara Ramzani comments: “Tomorrow’s skilled workers need tomorrow’s application procedures.”

Potsdam, October X, 2024 – The Gisma University of Applied Sciences (www.gisma.com) recently examined the application procedures and the required application documents at DAX-40 companies and the 28 German Unicorns. The experts found that of the 68 companies examined, only 18 offer a one-click application. Prof. Dr. Sara Ramzani, Professor of Research and Quantitative Methods and expert in HR and business management at Gisma University of Applied Sciences, fears that companies are missing out on great potential and are missing out on many qualified specialists as a result.

Those who are qualified want to be picked up
“In many sectors, for example IT and healthcare, there is a shortage of skilled workers. That’s why recruiters and HR managers should be particularly keen to streamline the application process as much as possible. At a time when the shortage of skilled workers is paralyzing many industries, it is crucial to remove hurdles in the application process. A laborious and complex application process could deter qualified candidates, especially those who are in high demand in industries such as IT or healthcare. Highly qualified candidates often have the choice between several offers. It is important for companies that their offer is perceived as the most attractive. This includes, among other things, making the application process quick and easy.“

Are HR managers afraid of losing control?

”The digitalization of recruitment offers numerous opportunities to modernize the application process and make it more efficient. A key factor here is not only simplifying the process for applicants, but also automating internal processes. Companies that use technologies such as artificial intelligence and automated application filters can not only reduce the effort for candidates, but also increase their own efficiency and thus identify suitable talent faster

Nevertheless, practice shows that many companies are hesitant to rely on these technologies. In addition to concerns about data security, the fear of losing control often plays a role. Many HR managers are concerned that they could lose the human touch in the application process as a result of automated systems. It’s not about eliminating people from the process, but rather about using technical tools intelligently to relieve administrative tasks and focus on the essentials: personal contact with applicants.”

Disclaimer: A one-click application allows applicants to apply for a job with just one click, without having to fill out an extensive application form. For example, a user can link their LinkedIn profile to a job portal and thus have all relevant data transferred automatically to immediately submit an application.
