Professor Dr. Ramon O’Callaghan
About
Prof. Dr. Ramon O’Callaghan is the esteemed President of Gisma University of Applied Sciences, bringing a wealth of experience and visionary leadership to the institution. His strategic approach and dedication to excellence have positioned Gisma as a leading institution in higher education.
His global perspective and strategic leadership continue to drive Gisma’s commitment to academic excellence and impactful education. His interests include Management of Technology and Innovation. His work has been published in academic journals, books, and conference proceedings, e.g., Journal of Marketing, Journal of IT, European Journal of IS, MIT Press, Wiley, ICIS.
He holds the degrees of Doctor of Business Administration from Harvard Business School, Harvard University; MBA from IESE Business School; BSc and MSc in Telecom Engineering from UPC Technical University, Barcelona. His education also included several courses at MIT and ESCP Paris.
Before joining Gisma, Prof. O’Callaghan served for eight years as Dean of Porto Business School at the University of Porto in Portugal. His distinguished career also includes being the Founding Dean of the Graduate School of Business at Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan. Earlier, he held several senior academic leadership roles, including Dean of Tias Business School at Tilburg University in the Netherlands and Dean of Deusto Business School in Bilbao, Spain. He has also held faculty positions at the School of Economics and Management at Tilburg University, Nyenrode University in the Netherlands, and IESE Business School in Spain.
His professional experience also includes executive education, research, and consulting projects for European, American, and Asian organisations. He coordinated and participated in several projects of the European Commission and taught in executive programmes of IESE, INSEAD, London Business School, MIT Sloan, Purdue University, and Solvay Brussels. Prior to his academic career, he worked for five years at Texas Instruments.
In addition to his role at Gisma, Prof. O’Callaghan serves on several prestigious boards and advisory councils worldwide. These include the Supervisory Board of ISM University of Management and Economics in Lithuania, the International Advisory Council of Fundação Dom Cabral (FDC) in Brazil, the International Corporate Advisory Board of Kozminski University in Poland, the Programme Accreditation Board of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD), and the Steering Committee of EFMD’s Business School Impact System (BSIS).
